Mycometer air Allergen
Examples of interpretation
Mycometer air Allergen (MAA) results are divided into 5 interpretation categories: A+, A, B, C and D, derived from the investigation of buildings with no known mold non-problems (see table with interpretations).
The MAA value is an indicator of potential exposure level to allergens. This is e.g. dust mites and their feces, pollen, mold, human skin cells, pet dander, insect parts. MAA values is highly correlated to the cleaning standard and high MAA values are mainly found in homes with inadequate cleaning standards.
An example:
The table below shows results from two bedrooms and a living room.

The level of allergens in bedrooms 1 and 2 are 11493 and 6427 which is very high values indicating an inadequate cleaning standard. In the living room the level of allergens in the living room was 527 which is indicating a cleaning standard in the normal range.
It was decided to clean the two bedrooms and samples were taken as quality control. Results after cleaning is shown below.

Interpretation criteria

Mycometer air Allergen measures a marker showing the presence of sources of allergens such as dust mites, pollen, fungi, pet dander etc. The Mycometer Air Allergen value is a measure of the total level of potential allergenic material present when measured by an activated air sample. The method does not measure specific allergens and as such gives no indication of the source.
Activated air sampling means that a standard protocol defined by Mycometer A/S has been used, where settled dust particles are resuspended in the air. Activated sampling has been shown to give representative and reproducible sample results.
